I am drawn to people that are complex. I love when you can't quite describe a person in a handful of words. As I become "Anna Leigh's Mom", I don't want that to be the only adjective that defines me.

I am a Christian but unfortunately I don't think that it defines me all the time. I hope as I mature in my walk that it will. I have a few hobbies that I dabble in but nothing passionately. My job is a small section of my life. So if you had to describe yourself or your life what would you say?

In the attempt to ward off a bad case of cabin fever, I took Anna Leigh to the library. She loved the children's section. There were bright colors and noisy children to keep her attention. I picked out a couple of short board books to share with her and when I was checking out the librarian asked if I had signed her up for the summer reading program yet. I chuckled and told her that Anna was only seven weeks old. Long story short, Anna has twenty books to read this summer so she better get crackin'.

What Happens in a Week

Wow this has been an exhausting 7 days. Let me give you a run down on whats going on with me.

Last Sunday, I started to feel lightheaded, like my heart was racing and i couldn't catch my breath. My neighbor had a blood pressure cuff that also takes your heart rate. My blood pressure was fine but my heart rate was 114. We called the after hours line and they said just to rest until my already scheduled appt. on Tuesday. Tuesday my heart rate was 118 so we wanted to wait and have me check it at home periodically. By Thursday I went in for a different reason and my heart rate that day was 130. I was sent to a cardiologist for an EKG and 24 hour monitor. The monitor was turned in on Friday afternoon and I am still waiting for my results.

Now that I have been aware of my increased hr, I have noticed that I get acid reflux and a slight tightness in my chest when my hr hits about 115. At 120-125 I start to feel lightheaded, a racing heart and winded. At 130 and above I feel really nauseous, tingling fingers, and that I might faint. Its been a total pain and I am concerned about what this is doing to my baby. I am hoping that they can give me something to feel better.

My Dreams...

I am going to take this as actual dreams instead of goals. My actual dreams right now are so random and crazy. They have been about thing like being a race car driver's passenger to being chased by a large house cat to a normal children's church Sunday.

I think I have my high school reunion on my mind because last night I dreamed I went to my reunion and didn't recognize anyone there. I kept remembering people to look for and never saw even a face that looked familiar!

I wonder what I will dream about tonight..

What's in my bag?

I am not one who will waste several hundreds on a designer purse. Its just not me. Occaisionally I will see one that I adore but then I think about what else that 500 dollars could be spent on. This purse is from Nine West. I love all the space it has. I think it was like $50.

Here are the things inside. At the very top is a black Bare Minerals Buffing Brush, two Victoria Secret lipglosses, my planner, a purple Banana Republic wallet, three clinique lipsticks in Guava Stain, Pink Goddess and Honeynut, a small hairbrush, a small reminder with 2 Cornith 5:7 on it and my medicine kit.

This is what my planner looks like. It has plenty of space to write in each day, a notes section, weekly to do list, activities, grocery list and weekly menu area. This planner is awesome!!

It also has activity stickers and a front pocket to hold lists, business cards and other random items.

In that teal Clinique makeup bag in the things picture I keep a stash of useful items. I'll start with the medicine bottles. The one without the label is filled with Tums for the heartburn that has started since I have been pregnant. The second is my prescription migraine pills. It doesn't work well and I desperately miss my Excedrin Migraine. I have two Wisps, Chapstick, a Tide to Go pen, Clorox wipes, lactose pills, and hand sanitizer.

So now you know what I am packing. :)

My Siblings

Sara is my sister. She is 3 year younger and completely different. From everything from our sense of humor to our hair colors. She is the person I call for honest advice and sometimes a reality check. It has been so exciting to watch her grow into a strong, Godly woman. Sara, you are an awesome sister and a great friend.

Derek is the baby, 4 years younger. He has major patience to deal with Momma and two sisters. We just gush over him. He is really wise, compassionate and very strong willed about what he believes. I am pretty sure he is my hero.

Whenever my friends call, I always ask "What's up with you?" So today I am letting you know whats up. :)

75 days til my due date.
I am addicted to dairy right now. String cheese, cottage cheese, milk and yogurt.
That's probably why I have gained so much weight.
I am starting to get the hang of my new job.
I have been pretty much booked solid since the beginning of the year...
And I am scheduled for something almost every weekend until Easter.
I love my pregnancy pillow, breathe right strips and nightlight in the bathroom.
Finally finished Biblical Womanhood and have started a new book.
Can't wait to go to the zoo!
I am going to be 28 in about a month... wow.
Anna Leigh's room is painted and furnished, but I am not sharing pictures until her bedding is here.

My Best Friend

I am so predictable. My husband, Jim, is my best friend. We were even best friends before we started dating. I kept denying my feelings for him because I didn't want to ruin our friendship.

He is truly the best friend anyone could have! He is loyal, funny, smart, laid back, helpful, and compassionate. We love playing cards, watching sports, traveling and just hanging out.

My definition of Love.

I have never been good at explaining things. I am that person who says " you know, love... um like you love someone" Yeah just call me Webster. The only way I can describe love is what I have experienced. So here it goes..

Love is being able to truly enjoy time spent with someone, trusting them without a shadow of a doubt, being willing to give up everything for them, doing what needs to be done without question, loving them when they are not so lovable, not being able to picture yourself without them, learning and loving things just because they do, supporting them when it seems impossible, never giving up, being so in love that sometimes you just watch them sleep, and even holding them accountable when its easier to let them make mistakes.

Even after 8 years I am shocked that my husband loves me and he never seems to waiver. I have not been easy to love at times.. but he still does. :)

My Parents.

I adore my parents. I am super close to both my mom and dad. I am blessed that they are still together and love each other alot. So lets get to know them.

Momma works at Georgetown College as the auxillary service coordinator. She handles everything from the cars and buses, vending machines, G-Card accounts, laundry services and I am sure I am missing like 7 other things. She is super fashionable and excellent at interior decorating. She is family focused and always doing something for one of her real or "adopted" children.

Daddy works for Toyota where he jokingly says he has mastered riding a bike while balancing two cups of coffee. But in reality he repairs and programs the robots that run the plant. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He is always coming up with these innovative ideas and business plans. He is a great listener and is incredibly compassionate to others.

I am a pretty lucky kid.

First Love? Like the first crush when I was 5 or one of the two guys I ever really loved?

The first boy I ever crushed on was a family friend. He was cute, older, and quite the troublemaker. My first memory of him was when I was 2 or 3 years old and he locked me in a closet. Sweet huh? Eventually, he ended up being the boy that pushed me on the swing set every recess.

Well my first real love was in high school. We were best friends for years and finally starting dating as sophomores. We had a pretty dramatic relationship, either we were madly in love or wanting to choke each other. That relationship was a casualty of college.

Thankfully every boy that broke my heart and every heart I broke helped me find Jim. <3

Well I am Shea. I am 27 years old, married to my best friend and expecting our first baby in May. I am a children's director at a newly planted church and a substitute teacher.

I am girly but not high maintenance, conservative but not close-minded, and adventurous but not reckless. I am a child of God, bookworm, daughter, clothes horse, UK fan, football fanatic, domestic engineer, sister, thifter, people person, teacher, wife, music lover, foodie, perfectionist, baker, crafter, and mom to be.

I admit I can be emotional, sensitive, and overwhelmed. Thank God for the lessons I have learned and the progress I have made. It would have been impossible without Him. I have been blessed beyond my wildest dreams.

So many of the Mercke's Satudays have been starting at like 7 am or so. This Saturday we not one of them. I slept in til 10 and Jim more like 11. It was nice. A small indulgence before Anna Leigh arrives. BUT it left no time for picking up the house from our night in last night. I forgot my friend Katie was dropping some stuff by... and my cell phone is broke. The door bell rings with Jim and I still in our pj's and the house a mess!
Now I know Katie could care less but I was pretty embarrassed. Katie's house is always clean when I stop by for a visit and she has two little ones! Well this just takes our friendship to a new level huh? :)

Dear Kelloggs,
In the grocery store today, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I was a HUGE fan of Apple Cinnamon Squares when I was a child and have been searching for a cereal close to that ever since. I reverted back to being five and begged my husband to put Frosted Mini Wheats with a Touch of Fruit in the basket! Once I got home I made a big bowl and the cereal did not disappoint. Thank you so much!! Now can you make one in Apple Cinnamon? :)

I have been slow moving when it comes to setting up the nursery. I guess I have been waiting for my showers before I started decorating. The only thing that is for sure is the cross stitch that my mother in law will do for Anna Leigh's room. It is so stunning and not the typical babyish print.

To brag.

I have been trying to save money via coupons and smart shopping. Today I feel like I deserve a gold star. I bought 96 items which included a 3lb. bag of chicken breasts, 2 bags of nuggets, 4 pizzas and 5 boxes of cereal. My total was $217 before coupon savings and kroger discounts. I paid $136! That is $1.41 an item!! Hopefully this is just the start and I can continue to shop smart and save my family money.

I am adding Dr. Todd's response to this situation.
“I’m very disappointed in what appears to me to be an inconsistent decision that leaves an outstanding young man without any recourse. It’s very disappointing that this young man, who along with his family intended to do everything the right way and in compliance with the rules, won’t be able to pursue his dream of playing at UK and in intercollegiate athletics. As an NCAA board member, I continue to be puzzled and confused by the reasoning behind this decision, which seems to be an inconsistent and arbitrary application of the rules. It is unfortunate and disappointing that Enes and his family have been negatively impacted by this process. It is certainly a matter I will continue to try to understand and question in my remaining time on the board as part of an organization, whose stated purpose is to put families and student athletes first.”

New Year, Fresh Start

I love the new year, it feels like a fresh start. All the mistakes made in 2010 are gone and I get a clean slate. What an amazing God that clears that slate for us! I was always one that would ask to be forgiven for the same sin several times.. I guess I never quite believed that our God could be that loving and forgiving if we truly repented once. I was wrong. I was denying God's love and power by thinking that He would not forgive me the first time I asked.

Psalms 103:9-12
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

So along with my clean slate, I love to set new goals to help me become a better Christian, wife, friend and now mother!

1. My first goal is to set aside morning time to walk, read and pray instead 0f squeezing it in when I can.

2.Be a better, more loving wife.

3. Be a better steward of the money God has provided us.

4. Create meaningful God centered traditions for my family.

5. Be available to friends when they need me. I allow silly, pointless things occupy me instead of the relationships I cherish.

6. Be an intentional parent to my new baby girl.

I may make smaller goals for myself that are less important but these are the main objectives for 2011. What are your new years resolutions?

Progressive Dinner

Our Bible study class had a progressive dinner and white elephant exchange last night. Jim and I were the first stop with appetizers.

We served ham biscuits, bbq meatballs, maple fruit dip and fruit, pepper jelly and cream cheese dip and crackers and cocktail weinies. The pepper jelly and cocktail weinies were a huge hit, so I wanted to share those recipes.

The pepper jelly was super easy and one of my favorites. It is from a Kentucky owned company called Chipotle Chicks. You can find their products at any Kentucky proud store, Liquor Barn or Doll's Market.

The cocktail weinies are really easy too. :) All you need is a package of cocktail weinies, a package of bacon and brown sugar.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Cut bacon slab into three sections. Wrap each cocktail weinie with a piece of bacon and secure with toothpick. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of each weinie. Bake for 45 minutes. Thats it! As of most of my successful recipes this one is from Our Best Bites.

During my family's thanksgiving festivities, we traveled to Louisville to see the FREE gingerbread village at The Galt House. It was truly amazing! 19,000 pounds of icing! I was like a child. I have three siblings, a husband and a sister in law. We are all still at that age where buying for everyone can get a little pricey.

Baby Update

We had a doctor's appointment today. We were very happy to hear the baby looks healthy and happy. We had an ultrasound and the poor little one had the hiccups and was jumping all around! One things for sure is this sweet little baby will have some crazy long legs! Thank you for all the prayers for our growing family.

12 Ways to Raise a Delinquent Child

The wording is a little dated but this is so true.

1. Begin with infancy to give the child everything he wants. In this way he will grow up to believe the world owes him a living.

2, Quarrel frequently in the presence of your children. In this way they won't be so shocked when the home is broken up later.

3. When he picks up bad words, laugh at him. This will make him think he's cute.

4. Give the child all the spending money he wants. Never let him earn his own.

5. Never give him any spiritual training. Wait until he is twenty-one and then let "him decide for himself".

6. Satisfy his every craving for food, drink, and comfort. See that his every sensual desire is gratified.

7. Avoid the use of "wrong". He may develop a guilt complex. This will condition him to believe later, when he is arrested, that society is against him and he is being persecuted.

8. Let him read any printed material, and listen to any music he can get his hands on. Be careful that the silverware and drinking glasses are sterilized, but let his mind feast on garbage.

9. Pick up everything he leaves lying around. Do everything for him so that he will be experienced in throwing all responsibility on others.

10. When he gets into real trouble, apologize to yourself by saying, "I could never do anything with him."

11. Take his part against neighbors, teachers, and policemen. They are all prejudiced against your child.

12. Prepare for a life of grief. You will likely have it.

Memory Verses

I was given this pretty little spiral notecard set by my bible study leader. She asked us to fill in this set with Bible verses that we wanted to memorize.

So I did. I have about twelve memory verses in my notebook now and add new ones everyday. When I am home during the week, I set the card up in a place I will walk by frequently. Every time I walk by I say the verse out loud!! I mentioned my good morning girls group in an earlier post. I am going to make each member one so they can work on their memory verses too!

Priorities

I struggle to make the important things in life the first things that I take care of. I find it all to easy to let small ridiculous things occupy my thoughts and time. But I have truly had enough. I have said for almost six months now that I was going to make a schedule and stick to it. To make time every morning for God and every evening for my husband. But I kept getting sidetracked with useless stuff.
Thankfully my sisters and friends have joined me in an accountability email group. The idea behind it is that when you finish your quiet time that you email the group and let them know what you are reading. That simple. I got the idea from http://www.goodmorninggirls.org/. I am hoping that putting God first in the morning will help me get all my other priorities straight for the rest of the day.

I love peanut butter

I went grocery shopping yesterday and stumbled upon a must have for all peanut butter fans.

This peanut butter has a nice hint of dark chocolate and is not too sweet. I had it on a banana this morning for breakfast. I am always watching my sugar intake and this has only 7 g per 2 tablespoons. Nutella has 21 g pre 2 tablespoons! The peanut butter company also has other flavors such as Mighty Maple, White Chocolate Wonderful,and Cinnamon Raisin Swirl. I found my jar at Kroger bottom shelf of the peanut butter section.
