Our annual beach trip marks the end of the summer. School looms around the corner; just a mere twelve days away now. We spend the last fleeting days of freedom riding waves, building sand castles, and playing shark in the pool. Somewhere between the salty breezes and warm sun rays, major life decisions are made.

I am not sure if it's the lack of daily distractions or simply the extra time together but the beach is where we change the world. Dreams of being better are developed into goals. Being a better Christian. Being a better parent. Being a better teacher. All carefully planned to be made into reality.

As we pack up the beach umbrella for the last time, I am renewed with ambition to strive to be better. I pray for God to provide the energy, focus, and discipline required for the life changes. As I begin to doubt my ability to transform, I am reminded by 2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.
